A 'Theoreticon' is a manual which contains a theory of church music. All of them were taken from the Greek manuscripts which reached St. Petersburg by different ways and in different periods of time. It is to this fact that the book owes its name "Petersburg Theoreticon". The literary monuments of this kind dealing with the theory of music have been studied and published for a long time.
